The window

US datacenter power demand doubles by 2030. Residential gas heat phase-outs are legislated in 7 states. The gap between the two is ~380 TWh/yr of displaceable load — and nobody's claiming it yet.

Four forces, one window.

Why this decade Each one of these alone would be a tailwind. Together they describe a decade in which a lot of waste heat and a lot of displaced load are looking for each other — and most siting is already in motion.
01 Demand

Datacenter heat is doubling

US datacenter demand is projected to double between 2024 and 2030. The reject side scales linearly with that — and most of it currently vents to the sky.
02 Phase-out

Gas heat is being retired

Seven states have legislated residential gas phase-outs by 2030-2035. The replacement load is on the grid; the question is whose kilowatt wins.
03 Siting

Datacenters are already next door

Residential-adjacent DC siting is accelerating — Northern Virginia, central Ohio, the Buffalo corridor. The hard part (land, power, interconnect) is already done.
04 Economics

Fossil heat has lost the cost race

Natural-gas heat is more expensive than captured heat before carbon pricing, before methane leakage, and before the next cold snap. CloudBoiler closes the delivery gap.
